As a former Vyatta employee I can tell you that Brocade never “got” opensource. Frankly, they never understood what they bought. Brocade bought into the market positioning that Vyatta was SDN company – and they wanted some of that magic pixie dust to rub off on them, But Vyatta, though software, had no integration into SDN controllers, no separation of data and management planes .
